National Strategic Technology Flagship Major

Overview

Parts of the National Strategic Technology Majors will be selected and operated as a ‘National Strategic Technology Flagship Major’ according to the “Special Act on the Fostering of National Strategic Technology”.

Definition

Convergence majors that can produce synergy in teaching and research through cooperation between schools in common and adjacent fields among the 12 national strategic technologies

A convergence major is an academic unit where multiple schools collaborate to achieve integrated and convergent education.

Purpose of operation

  • Enlarging and strengthening the competitiveness of majors by innovating the major operating system
  • Enhancing the university's brand value by restructuring majors based on promising areas

Content of operation

  • Achieving convergence education by promoting organic education and research cooperation such as joint lectures between schools, etc.
  • Providing various priorities and benefits in academic operation policies as a representative major of UST

Status of operation

(Fall semester of 2023-) Artificial Intelligence Flagship Major

Artificial Intelligence - Host school - Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) / Participating school - Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER),Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI),Korea Institute of Geoscience And Mineral Resources (KIGAM),Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI)

Type ① of Flagship Majors: Host school leads operation with small-scale participation from other schools.

(Spring semester of 2024-) Quantum Information Flagship Major

Quantum Information - Participating school - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST),Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI),Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI),Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI),Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS)

Type ② of Flagship Majors: All schools participate equally, and the school where the chief major professor is affiliated performs the role of the host school formally.

Advanced Bioconvergence - Host school - Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) / Participating school - (To Be Determined)
