  • The marine (underwater) environment is a fluid environment where signals (energy) are highly absorbed and scattered by the medium, unlike the terrestrial environment. Therefore, underwater robots cannot use most of the sensors and actuators used in terrestrial robots, and must overcome disturbances (tides, eddies) and water pressure (waterproofing) in a three-dimensional (six degrees of freedom) fluid environment, and operate in a limited power and communication environment. In this course you will learn about the types and characteristics of underwater platforms and sensors for perception, complex navigation and sensor fusion methods using multiple sensors, underwater perception and cognition technologies, and platform control to understand and overcome these environments for underwater robots.
